Debate I, Debate II, Debate III and Debate IV – May 2017 May is here and the year is winding down. We also have a t-shirt for sale. Students ordered their t-shirts last month, but some still have not picked them up and paid for them. I need them to pick up their shirts ASAP ($15 cash or checks payable to DSHS). Debate I students are writing their Original Oratory speeches. This is an original speech that the students write themselves about a problem in society and then pose some possible solutions. Have been researching and writing Original Oratories in class for the last two weeks. The students just turned in their outline this week and the rough draft (a summative grade) is due May 10 or May 11 (depending on the day they have class). The final copy is due on May 17 and May 18 (depending on the day they have the class). Debate II, Debate III and Debate IV students are done with competition for the year and we have begun researching debate topics for next year. The Advanced Debate students have also chosen a historically relevant speech, which they have been analyzing in class. They will complete a Rhetorical Analysis of the speech by researching the author of the speech, the occasion, the message, the audience of the speech and then they will also analyze the speech for the different stylistic literary devices utilized by the author throughout the speech and the impact those devices have on the speech itself.
